PRO STOCK TO PRO TURBO
Recent rumours have been floating around about who is joining the Sport Compact Group Drag Racing Series, and who is buying what car from the USA. We are happy to confirm that long time ANDRA Pro Stock competitor Tony Wedlock has decided to move across to the growing Sport Compact Group Series, importing the ex-Matt Scranton 2JZ-powered car from the USA. Tony first took a close look at Sport Compact when the Pac Performance Team were pitted next to him at the 2004 Summer Nationals. Tony was very impressed with the professionalism shown and the power being developed from these small cube engines.
After competing at the highest level in Pro Stock for the past 20 years, Tony and Sue Wedlock and their Ultimate Motorsport Team have their sights set on Sport Compact. “It was time to make a change, and as a team, we looked at a number of options before deciding on the McKern & Associates Pro Turbo category with the Sport Compact Group Series. We believe that Sports Compact has an opportunity for unlimited growth within Australian Motorsport, and these McKern & Associates Pro Turbo cars have an enormous drawing potential” explained Tony.
Wedlock has just completed initial testing in the USA at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida, aided by Team Crew Chief Bruce “Gonzo” Agate. The car is now being packed into a contain bound for Australia. “This car has far exceeded our expectations and is really going to turn some heads” commented Tony.
Wedlock looks forward to racing again on Australian soil, “As a team, we understand that these vehicles have an awesome potential and can’t wait to unleash the Toyota Camry Solara on the Australian Sports Compact scene. We know that these cars have the potential to turn the sport of drag racing on its ear in Australia and if we can help that occur, that’s great.”
Tony’s vast experience and race craft will make a very welcome addition to the Sport Compact Group Drag Racing Series and validates the already growing professionalism within the McKern & Associates Pro Turbo ranks. Hopefully this is the first of many traditional racers that see what the Sport Compact Group Series has to offer. SERIES RULES UPDATE
Due to the floor design of Mazda RX7 Series 6 and on vehicles we have seen the need to allow some concessions with regard to rear floor modifications on vehicles competing in Street 289. ANDRA have voted to remove the controversial 10 sec staging rule as of 1/9/07 and go back to the original 20sec rule. To keep consistency we have elected to do the same but see no reason it shouldn't be implemented immediately. As off 23/03/07 the old staging rule is in place. For full details click HERE to go to the Series Rule Book page of the website. The Series Rule Book has been updated and is Ver 1.2 - 23/03/07 ready for download.
