WORLDS FASTEST TOYOTA TOUCHES DOWN IN OZ
As reported back in March, the Ultimate Motorsport Team of Tony & Sue Wedlock have purchased the Ex Matt Scranton Toyota Camry Solara to compete in Sport Compact Group Drag Racing Series.
"I was lucky enough to be on hand, when the Camry was wheeled out of the container at the freight forwarders, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics a few weeks ago. This is the Fastest and Quickest Toyota powered Toyota in the World and it's not hard to see why! " comments Ray Box of Sport Compact Group.
This RJ Race Cars built Toyota Camry Solara has only done 20 passes but has notched up a best of 6.46sec at 220mph. Powered by a 6 cylinder Toyota 2JZ, the 3.25Ltr / 198 cubic inch engines pumps out over 1,700 hp.
Last Saturday (July 7th) saw the Team at Willowbank Raceway for their 1st test session on Australian soil. After an impressive burnout the Camry Solara launched for it's maiden pass down Willowbank Raceway. Being the 1st pass in a new car the Team had to complete ANDRA performance testing and a half track pass was the 1st step. After the 60 foot mark it was clear something was a miss as the clutch seemed to be slipping. On return to the pits it was confirmed that the clutch had been slipping and on further investigation the Team found that a faulty 50cent o-ring in the Lenco transmission had caused the Camry Solara to launch in 2nd gear which in turn destroyed the clutch. As the air and track temp was dropping rapidly the Team chose to call it a night. Rest assured, the Ultimate Motorsport Team will be back on track soon in preparation for the upcoming Castrol EDGE Jamboree.
